Who Is Qualified for Office?

With 16 elected offices up for grabs in Central on November 6th, the first step is to qualify, and most people already meet the requirements. In general, you must be 18, have lived in Central for a year, and reside in the voting district where you are running. There is also a $300 fee.
Qualifying documents can be turned in at the Clerk of Court’s office July 18-20, or from 8 a.m. to noon at Central’s City Hall on July 18th. All of the documents and rules can be downloaded from the Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.la.gov, or call them at 922-0900.
The offices up for election and their annual salaries are: Mayor ($55,000), Chief of Police ($26,500), Seven Council Members ($9,600), and Seven School Board Members ($7,200)
