A Prayer to Pray Over Our City

From Pastor Dick Metz, Cornerstone Fellowship Church

Dear Heavenly Father, we first want to praise You.  You are an awesome, holy, righteous, wonderful, loving God.  You have created the world, and every one of us!  We praise You for Your Son Jesus Christ, who died on the cross for our sins, that we can be Your children by faith. We praise You, Holy Spirit, for living in us and enabling us to live Godly lives!  We humble ourselves before You and declare our total dependence on You!

Lord, we confess that we are weak and inadequate to live the Godly life You have called us to live.  Our lives have often been characterized by rebellion, disobedience, and apathy.  Forgive us O Lord!  Thank You for forgiving our sins.

Thank You Lord for every blessing we have in Christ and in Central.  You have enabled us to become a city, to establish a school system, to have flourishing businesses, and churches with Godly leadership. Thank You for our local government, and the integrity in which it operates!  Thank You for each family in Central.  Lord, please bless and protect our government, our schools, our churches, our businesses, and our families.

As Your children, Lord, we ask Your blessing and protection upon the people of our city.  We have recently experienced many accidents and other hurtful circumstances.  Extend Your hand of blessing and protection over our city.  Use every difficult circumstance to draw us closer to Your Son Jesus Christ!  Give us wisdom to make good decisions, and to live responsibly before You and the other residents of Central.  Pour out Your grace and love upon each person who is experiencing tough times.

Finally Lord, we know that our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  According to Your word, we take our stand against the devil’s schemes.  Show us God, where we have opened doors for demonic oppression in our lives and in the life of our city.  Make us quick to repent, and to come quickly to You for help and deliverance!  Once again, we place our faith in Your Son, Our Savior, Jesus Christ!

We pray this prayer over our city in Jesus’ Name.  Amen.

St. Alphonsus “Remembering Our Children” Service

Submitted by St. Alphonsus

I miss my children. It has been many years since they died and I last heard their voices or laid eyes on them.  I found myself sitting on the patio of a restaurant at the end of another day. Across the boulevard from where I was sitting I saw a young Marine in “dress blues” crossing the street with two companions. When they crossed the street to the near side where I was sitting they stopped. The Marine stood by himself and posed for a picture while his companions stayed behind the camera. The flash of the camera lit up the silhouette of the Marine. His pose was momentarily frozen in time for my mind to process. What a beautiful picture the camera had captured for others to see.

I realized at that moment that is all I had left along with my memories and some mementoes to recall what my children were in this world and how they affected my life.

Photographs, they capture momentary cross-sections of our lives.  I started thinking how much time in one lifetime can one photograph represent?  The average shutter speed for my old SLR camera was one sixtieth of a second. That is all the time the average photograph represents of the life of someone we love. It would take sixty separate photographs to capture one second of a person’s life. Even movies only capture a minute fraction of a lifetime.

I tell myself I will always have my memories.  I will always have my memories, but my recollection and my memories change and fade as the distance of time forever widens me from the event of my children’s passing from this world. I know that days turn to months and months to years. The pain of the loss is always there, not as sharp, but always there.

I think about what my children would have been had they lived. Would they have children? Those roads were never meant to be traveled, but I will continue to ask those questions as any parent would who has lost a child.

This is an invitation to all who have lost a child and their family and friends.  On Sunday December 11, 2011 at 7:00 PM St. Alphonsus Catholic Church will host “Remembering Our Children”, a non-denominational memorial service for all to come and remember the lives of all our children who died.

It is a time to share the lives of our deceased children with our family and friends through memories, stories, pictures, and a beautiful and memorable candlelight service. It is also a time to recognize the spiritual presence of our children that still live in all those that love them.

Please call, JoAnn, at  St Alphonsus Catholic Church office, 261-4650, if you know someone who has lost a child to provide the church with their address and their child’s name. We would like to send an invitation to those parents to personally invite them to the “Remembering Our Children” service.

My mind wonders back to the photograph of the young Marine. I pray to God the photograph is only one of many that are still yet to be taken, but I imagine if that photo was the last.  His parents would grieve and hurt and wonder what his life would have been… And they would only have memories, mementoes, and photographs to capture brief cross-sections of his life… a life lived… a life loved… and time would move on.

Milldale Baptist Church – Life-Altering Encounters

By Jaci Marino

Milldale Baptist Church, now home of Milldale International Ministries, may have begun in a modest farm house on 16 acres of land, but has currently flourished into a ministry that touches the world.

The first service, August 5, 1963, started with 15 people. Milldale Baptist Church has grown to impact more lives than its founder, Jimmy Roberston, had ever imagined.

Located in Zachary/Pride (which is easily accessed by the Central community) this church is a home to one of the largest on-going church camp ministries in Louisiana.

Pastor Jimmy’s journey started with more than a mere dream of buying some land and throwing up a church. He had a bigger idea in mind; his vision was to see God do a supernatural work. He was a willing vessel with a servant’s heart, but he hadn’t ever dreamed of being a part of something this great.

The first Milldale Baptist Church camp meeting took place almost exactly one year after the church’s first service. Little did anyone know this would be a day that would confirm this ministry’s faith…. Indefinitely.

They had a location and a tent; some would say that they weren’t prepared at all for what God had in store, but that didn’t stop it from happening. From all over Louisiana, and surrounding states, 500 guests arrived full of faith ready to see God move… and that is just what He did! There was a storm brewing in a neighboring parish that was moving in on their camp meeting, but they didn’t care. They knew they had a divine appointment with God that night, and nothing was going to alter that plan—not even a storm.

Seeing the rain approaching in the distance, they joined in prayer that God would redirect the storm. All 500 people witnessed a miracle that night, the storm simply began shifting away from their location, and just as planned, they continued their camp meeting.

Year after year, Milldale Baptist Church has continued to host their semi-annual camp meetings, and just like the first one, God fills the Church with his divine love and mercy.

Jimmy Roberston “passed the torch” in May 2004 to Pastor Danny Greig, the church’s current leader. Being a member of Milldale Baptist Church since he was 16 years old, Pastor Danny Greig leads the church with a passion for Christ and a compassion for the people.

Visiting the church, you will find their worship services inspirational, faith-filled and spirit led. The entire Milldale journey can be found in the book titled, “The Milldale Story” written by Ron Owens with Judy Scoggins.
