Central Snowball Stand Burglarized

Last Tuesday evening between 7:30 and 10:30 PM, the snowball stand on Greenwell Springs Road next to Frog's was broken into.  The burglar stole an ice shaving machine.  The stand is owned by Central High's Coach Gardner.  If you have any information about this or any of the other recent burglaries, please contact the Sheriff's Office.

EBRSO Arrests 1 in Morgan Place West Burglaries

Sheriff's Office makes arrest for burglaries in Morgan Place West last week. Ricky DeWayne Wells, B/M, DOB 12/08/1989, 1152 North 36th Street, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70805, was arrested for the burglaries that occurred on Arrowood Drive last week. Some of the stolen merchandise was returned to the property owner. Good work by the Sheriff’s Office!

EBRSO Searching for Woman Seen Cashing Stolen Check

East Baton Rouge Sheriff Detectives and Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office are looking for a woman seen cashing a stolen check that was reportedly taken from the mail. The complainant reported dropping the check off at the Livingston Parish Post Office.  An unknown black female was seen cashing the check, in the amount of #343.24, on April 13, 2010 at the Wal-Mart in Central.
 
Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office contacted EBRSO concerning the check. EBRSO obtained surveillance footage from the Wal-Mart which showed the woman cashing the stolen check.  Stills attached.
 
Anyone with information concerning this incident or the identity of the suspect is asked to contact the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office at 225-389-5000. Woman Arrested for Use of Others’ Checking Accounts

East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Detectives arrested a woman during a search warrant this morning for using another person’s checking account information to pay bills. During the investigation, detectives learned that the woman may have used up to 40 different accounts (both checking and credit cards) to make payments, or attempt to make payments, on a Cox Communications account.
 
Marquita Johnson, 26, of 11124 Lac Cypress was booked into Parish Prison for Access Device Fraud and Theft.
 
EBRSO Detectives executed a search warrant at Johnson’s home today and seized  two computers, bank statements with other people’s names, multiple credit/debit cards with other people’s names, IRS and La. Department of Revenue documents listed with other people’s names and other personal identifying information of other people.
 
More charges pending.

EBRSO Searching for Burglary Suspects

From the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office:

East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Detectives are looking for a man and women seen burglarizing a car in the parking lot at the Circle K at 13435 Hooper Road at approximately 7:16 pm on April 15, 2010.
 
According to reports a light brown or gold colored 4-door vehicle driven by an unknown black female parked on the side of the victim's vehicle.  The unknown black female exited the vehicle and entered the Circle K wearing hospital scrubs. She then turned and exited the store, reentered her vehicle and began to back out of the Circle K parking lot. Prior to exiting, she stopped her vehicle allowing an unknown black male to exit the passenger side of her vehicle. 
The black male then crawled to the passenger side of victim's vehicle, opened the unlocked passenger door and removed the victim's purse from the front seat. The purse reported contained ten loose diamonds, varying in size and cut.

Drowning in Amite River at Magnolia Bridge

It is difficult to balance the desire to keep Central informed, with the desire to be compassionate.  This story will eventually be about the dangers of the Amita and Comite rivers, and about the capabilities of our local EMS and Sheriff's departments.  For now, however, know that a 20 year old father lost his life Saturday evening in the Amite River at Magnolia Bridge.

The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office reports the following:

On May 22, 2010 at approximately 5:00pm, LPSO received a call of a drowning at Magnolia Beach in Watson, Louisiana.

After speaking with witnesses, Deputies learned that Jose Ricardo Hernandez Chevez, a 20-year-old Hispanic Male from Denham Springs, was fishing with his 6-year-old son when the boy went into the river to retrieve his fishing pole and got caught in the current.

Jose went in after the boy, getting him to safety before he went under the water and drowned.

LPSO, EBRSO, District 5 Fire Department, District 4 Fire Department, Central Fire Department, Louisiana State Police, and Killian Search and Rescue searched the river for several hours, having to stop the search at dark.

District 5 Fire Department remained on scene all night to secure the scene.

Rescuers resumed the search this morning and were able to recover the body of Jose Chevez at approximately 6:53am.

Man Arrested for False Imprisonment, Battery, Property Damage

From the EBR Sheriff's Office:

On May 3, 2010 deputies were dispatched to 15039 West Beaver in reference to the complainant's cable wire being cut. Deputies have been to this residence on several occasions due to the complainant's property being damaged including windows and plumbing being shot, tires on her vehicle being flattened and on today's date her cable wire was cut. The complainant advised that it has been an ongoing problem since she assisted her female neighbor in a domestic disturbance in November. On today's date the female neighbor advised the complainant that her boyfriend is the one that is damaging her property and he isn't going to stop.
Deputies attempted to contact the subject, Craig Clement, W/M, 9/11/71 at 15049 West Beaver. Upon knocking on the door deputies heard a female voice inside the trailer saying please don't kill me. Deputies continued attempting to get Clement to come to the door. After several hours Clement finally came to the door. At this time deputies were able to question Clement's girlfriend who advised that he held her against her will and was making threats that he would have to kill her. She further advised that she witnessed Clement shoot towards the complainant's trailer on several occasions.
Clement was charged with False Imprisonment, Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property(3 cts.), Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities(3 cts.) and Domestic Abuse Battery.

Shooting at Hooper & Sullivan Leaves One Dead

At about 8 PM this evening, Tuesday, May 4th, a shooting occurred in an eastbound lane of Hooper Road at the Sullivan Road intersection.  Those on the scene indicate that a small white pickup truck pulled up behind a low-rider black pickup truck at the traffic light.  The driver of the white truck approached the black truck yelling at the driver of the black truck.  The driver of the black truck is said to have responded by shooting the driver of the white truck.  There were about a dozen police and fire units on the scene and the area was taped off.  As always, if anyone has information about the incident that would be helpful to law enforcement you are encouraged to call the Sheriff's office.

EBRSO Arrests Man For Shooting His Cousin
Deputies arrested Kevin Carlock, 34, of 25093 Greenwell Springs Rd. for Second Degree Murder in the shooting death of Kerry Carlock, 34, 12935 N. Oak Tree that occurred yesterday evening at the intersection of Hooper and Sullivan.
According to reports, the two men, allegedly cousins, had an ongoing domestic dispute. Witnesses said the victim was pursuing the accused, both in vehicles, while traveling down Hooper Road. Witnesses said the victim approached the accused's vehicle yelling while the two were stopped at the red light at Hooper and Sullivan. Before the victim reached the accused's vehicle, the traffic light changed to green, but the accused did not proceed through the light. According to witnesses, as the victim reached the vehicle, the accused leaned out of the driver's side window and shot the victim. No weapon was found on or near the victim.
An off-duty BRPD officer detained the accused until EBRSO arrived on scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital and later pronounced dead. The accused was booked into Parish Prison.

EBRSO Working Shooting In Central
East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting at Hooper and Sullivan at approximately 8:05 p.m. this evening that left one man dead. A BRPD officer on his way home stopped and detained the shooter until EBRSO made it on scene.
The injured man was transported to a local hospital and later pronounced dead as a result of an apparent gunshot wound.
According to reports, the deceased was chasing a relative, the shooter, down Hooper Road, both in vehicles, when the two stopped at a redlight at Hooper and Sullivan. There was an altercation and one man shot the other.
This is an ongoing investigation. The shooter is in custody at this time.

Armed Robbery at Pit Crew Barbecue

News from the EBR Sheriff's Office: On 4/23/10, at approximately 0603 hrs, Deputies were dispatched to Pit Crew Barbecue located at 9718 Shady Bluff in reference to an armed robbery.
      An employee stated that while in the smoke room cutting meat, a man entered through the unlocked back door and came up behind him. The employee felt what he believed to be a gun. The man demanded money. The employee gave the suspect the money he had on him before the suspect fled out the door. The employee never looked at the suspect, so there is no description other than he is a male. Detectives are investigating.
