This Thursday, March 11, there will be a mayoral forum between the two candidates running for Mayor of Central. Jr. Shelton and Mac Watts will both be speaking at the forum in the Central High School theater. The forum will run from 7 to 8 PM. Doors will open at 6; however, due to the size of the venue, seating is limited to the first 350 people who arrive, so get there early!
If you cannot make it to the forum in person, there are two ways to view it from home. Cox government channel 4 and channel 21 will be airing it on television. Also, CentralSpeaks.com will be filming the forum and posting the video on this website afterward so that you can view it at your convenience.

Last Friday, there was a robbery at AAS on Monterrey. “Lil Mac” Watts was loading shirts into a suburban when he was held up at gun point. The robber took Mac’s wallet and the suburban. Thankfully, Mac was able to get inside the building, lock the doors, and call the police before anyone was harmed. The stolen suburban is maroon in color. Please call the Sheriff’s Office if you have any information about this or if you come across the stolen vehicle.

The Indian Mound Civic Association held a public candidate’s forum this evening, 3/2/10, at the Indian Mound Baptist Church. Beginning at about 7:00 PM and lasting until after 9:00 PM, there were candidate statements followed by a question and answer period.
Each candidate running for Mayor, City Council, and Police Chief took 2 to 5 minutes to tell the gathering of some 100 Central residents why they should be elected. After this process, the Civic Association asked about a dozen questions of the group and allowed candidates to answer in an open forum. The Q & A period sometimes deteriorated into somewhat heated exchanges, but all in all the candidtaes behaved acceptably, but politically as is to be expected. The recurring points of contention consistently were the City’s contract with CH2M Hill and the city’s Master Plan.
More forum’s are scheduled and the public is encouraged to attend. Check out future forum announcements at CentralSpeaks.com.

Kelsey Lieux, a senior at Central High School, has passed away after being injured in a car accident months ago. Our city has stepped forward in a big way over the past few months to offer support for the Kelsey and her family through visits, fundraisers, and prayers. Let’s continue to offer this support and keep Kelsey’s family and friends in our thoughts and prayers through this extremely difficult time. She will be remembered and missed by her entire community.
All of Kelsey’s friends, classmates, and teachers will miss her very much. Out of respect and rememberance for Kelsey, the CHS Twirp dance scheduled for Saturday night has been postponed.
