Tiger Aquatics Keeps Central Grandson Training

Visiting his grandparents, Andy & Algie Petrere of Central, Matthew Cunningham needed a place to say on track with his swim training.  Eleven year old Matthew lives in Springdale Arkansas and swims competitively with the Razorback Aquatics swim team.  The family contacted Jeannine Malbrough,  coach of the Tiger Aquatics at LSU and  got permission for  Matthew to train with her club at the LSU Natatorium early Thursday morning.

These young people are very dedicated and spend many hours training.  You have to be dedicated to make an effort to train while you’re on vacation, especially at 7:00 in the morning.  Thanks go out to Tiger Aquatics for helping keep this Central grandson in training.

Rebels Sting Oak Forest Academy Yellowjackets

Stats submitted by Coach Palubinskas

The Central Private varsity basketball team lengthened their winning streak last week with a 93-58 win over the Oak Forest Academy Yellowjackets.  High scorers for the Rebels were Tim Fletcher and Jake Flaggert, scoring 27 apiece, with Flaggert landing seven 3-pointers for CP.  Just the night before, when the Rebs played Centerville, Central Private's Simpson Anderson made an impressive nine 3-pointers in the 102-39 victory for the Rebels.  Congratulations to the varsity boys and the rest of the Rebel basketball players, who continue to improve and grow as the season progresses.  You can catch more CPS basketball in the new year when the Rebels play Silliman on January 4th (4:00 PM at Silliman) and ASC on January 6th (4:00 PM at home).

JV Rebel Teams Take Home Wins

Submitted by Coach Palubinskas

The Central Private boys JV won 40-26 after a slow start, and the girls junior varsity enjoyed a good win as well.  The girls varsity, after losing to the Centerville Tigers by 30, played the game close all the way but ran out of gas right near the end, losing by a few points.  The girls varsity team has been showing great improvement in a short time.

CP Varsity Boys Turn Up Heat against Centreville

Submitted by Coach Palubinskas

Possibly setting a new scoring record for one half, the Central Private Rebel-utionaries scored 34 in the first quarter and 43 in the second quarter against Centreville.  The new mercy rule went into effect, which says that once a team leads by 35 points over their opponent the clock continues to run without stopping.  Why don't they do this for the NBA?  Fans would be pretty ticked.  Anyhow, there would definitely be the possibility of having scored between 130 -150 points.
Again, there were about a dozen blocked shots, 9 dunks, and 13-3pointers, 8 by Simpson Anderson alone.  The salivating Rebs exhibited a sticky defense, using octopus-like tentacles which strangled the hapless de-clawed Tigers.  The defense is definitely responsible for a 43 point quarter. The game pace was too hectic even for one official, who suffered a nagging cramp in his left calf.  He was warned about the zoom-zoom pace the Rebs like to play.  The team continues to get better in preparation for district and state playoffs, which is the goal.

Football and Volleyball Teams Recognized at School Board

The Central High School football and volleyball teams were both honored at the CCSS December School Board meeting for their outstanding seasons.  Both teams made it to the playoffs and impressed the community with their hard work and victories to show for it.

The CHS Lady Wildcat volleyball team is pictured above with Coach Heather Blackard (standing in the center).  Along with their great season, several of the girls were given other honors this year.  Rachel Barber, Brisha Coffee, and Taylor Padgett all made 1st Team All-District.  Honorable Mentions for All-District include Chelsea David, Tremelia Kelly, Zhane’ Williams, and Dylan Wilson.  Taylor Padgett made 1st Team All-Metro, and Brisha Coffee got an All-Metro Honorable Mention.  The following players were named to the 2010 Academic All-State Team, an honor given to LHSAA athletes who have kept a high GPA while remaining committed to their sport: Meagan Alexander (3.8333 GPA), Dylan Wilson (3.8095 GPA), and Brittany Starkey (3.7381 GPA) were all honored for their academic and athletic achievement.  Congratulations to these ladies for their awards and honors, and we are proud as a community of the entire Lady Wildcat volleyball team!
