CHS Football Sees First Action

By Dave Freneaux

This past Saturday the Wildcat Varsity football team traveled to Zachary to scrimmage Plaquemine.  Fortunately for Central, the 12-0 score in favor of Plaquemine does not tell the whole story.  First year head coach Dog Dotson comments "Coming off of Boot Camp with only one day of rest the team gave as much effort as they could.  It would be a stretch to be at 100% after tough three-a-days at camp."  Dotson added "Having this scrimmage on film versus a quality opponent like Plaquemine makes it worth while."

Former Head Coach and current Central School System Athletic Director Sid Edwards offered another perspective saying "This is no time to push the panic button.  Central has a lot of talent, good coaches, and the team continues to come together."  The next scrimmage is Thursday, August 19th against John Curtis in New Orleans and the first home event will be the Jamboree where Central faces West Feliciana.

Central Girls Super 7 Summer Soccer

Submitted by Thomas Eskola

Central High's girls soccer team concluded their summer season this week-end at the Burbank Soccer Complex.  The "WolfCats", a mix of girls from Central, Redemptorist and Zachary High schools, improved with each game played.  They ended the regular season with a 3-3 tie against Live Oak 2, a team later seeded 3rd in the play-offs.  The WolfCats opened the play-offs with a 6-4 overtime win against McKinley High before falling to # 1 seed Live Oak 1 by the score of 1-5.  Thank-you to all the girls for their hard work during practices and games.  Special thanks to the CHS boy's team and Coach Wes Melton for practicing with the girl's team.  This is also a call to all CHS girls not afraid to run and sweat to come out for girls soccer this fall and help us build a competitive 5A girls soccer team.

CHS Boys’ Soccer Finishes #1

Submitted by Suzonne Cowart

The CHS Boys Soccer team participated in the Super 7 Summer league finale tournament this past weekend.  CHS had two teams which participated made up of boys from the Central High School team along with some younger boys from Tanglewood and three Walker High Boys.  The tournament was a single elimination tournament with each of the two teams participating a different division.  Team One defeated St. Michael’s #2, Live Oak and Northeast to finish in first place in their division and remained undefeated for the summer league season.  Team Two defeated St. Michael’s #3 and Episcopal #2 to make it to the championship game for their division.  Unfortunately they were defeated by St. Michael’s #4 and took second place as a result.  Both teams worked really hard this summer and the CHS Boys are looking ahead to the high school season that begins in mid November.  We hope that many of you will come out and support the team this season.  It should be a good one.

In the photo below, the team shows off their championship t-shirts.
