Central Square Holds Grand Opening and Farmer’s Market

Last Saturday, Central Square hosted the first of many weekly Farmer’s Markets at the corner of Wax and Sullivan.  The Farmer’s Market will continue every Saturday through October from 8AM to noon.  At the grand opening, representatives from the Chamber of Commerce came to do a ribbon cutting with the Couvillion family and other community members.  The festivities on Saturday also included kids’ activities, vendors, the CHS Jazz Band, and a kids’ concert put on by Fundamentals Early Learning Center, which is opening at Central Square in August.  Don’t forget to come out to the Farmer’s Market again each Saturday throughout the summer!  Central Square is located at the corner of Wax and Sullivan behind CVS and Raising Cane’s.

CHS Football Players Raise Money for Coach JR at MISSter Gridiron Pageant

Last Saturday, Central High School football players, coaches, cheerleaders, Kittens, and parents put on the MISSter Gridiron Pageant, a fundraiser with all proceeds going to the Coach JR Project Walk fund.  Players and coaches alike left their self-consciousness at the door in order to help their coach get a little closer to his goal of going to California for Project Walk, a program that specializes in spinal cord injuries like Coach JR’s.  The spirit of the evening was summed up nicely by pageant winner Jared Leger during the question and answer session, when he said that being a part of Central High Football has taught him that he is man enough to dress up like a woman for a good cause.  Thank you to everyone in the pageant and in the audience who helped to make this a successful fundraising event.
Coach JR still has a long way to go to reach his $50,000 goal, and you can help him get there.  An account has been established at www.HelpHopeLive.org and you can donate on line or by check made out to Help Hope Live with the name JR Owens in the comment line.

CMS Choir Gets Top Ratings

Submitted by Trey Miller, Choir Director
On Thursday, May 2, students from the Central Middle School Seventh Grade Choir traveled to Lake Charles, LA, to participate in the Louisiana Music Educator's Association State Large Ensemble Music Performance Assessment. The choir did very well at the event and received a concert rating of "Superior" and a sight reading rating of "Excellent." These are the two highest ratings a choir can receive at this event. This is great news for the new choir program at CMS. After a few years of hiatus, we are back and great things are already happening! The Spring Concert will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at the Central High Theater. The program starts at 6:30. The sixth and seventh grade choirs will be performing a mixture of classical and popular selections and it is sure to be a great concert. We hope to see you there!
