Sisters Lead GSYR as Captain and Co-Captain

Submitted by Marianne Covington
Aubrie Pisanie is a 10th grade honors student at Central High.  She’s had a lifelong passion for horses.  She joined the Youth Riders in the fall of 2008, where she quickly found a second family.  She’s made so many new friends, and found a place where she belongs.  In addition to the Youth Riders, Aubrie and her horse Lucky compete in barrel races.  Aubrie was co-captain of the team last year and was honored to be elected captain this year.  Of being captain Aubrie says, “This was a goal I’ve had since I first started the Youth Riders and I hope to continue in this position until I graduate in 2015.  It is the best feeling in the world to be chosen among your peers to be a leader.”  She hopes to attend LSU after graduation.
Her sister Taylor is a 7th grade honors student at St. Alphonsus Catholic School.  Like her sister, she too loves horses.  She joined the Youth Riders in the fall of 2009.  She was elected co-captain this year.  Taylor and her horse Cajun have had a special bond since the day she brought him home.  Taylor says, “Being elected co-captain is a privilege to help lead the team along with my sister.  I like being able to help out the new kids and traveling to different places to ride in rodeos.  I’ve made good friends and memories and hope to make many more.”  Once her sister graduates in 2015, she hopes to be elected captain.
Don’t forget to come out this weekend for the 55th annual Greenwell Springs Youth Riders Pro Rodeo on May 3rd and 4th at the Shady Park Arena in Central. The rodeo starts at 8pm nightly and admission is $10/adult, $5/ages 5-17, and free for those under 5.  This annual rodeo is the only fundraiser for the group.

Wildcat Baseball Wins Two Straight Going into Senior Day

By Josh Walker
The week didn’t quite start the way the Wildcats wanted it to, losing a 9-6 contest at home against Walker last Thursday. After going down 8-1 through four innings, Central made a valiant effort to try to get back in the game scoring five runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Unfortunately, it would not be enough to overtake the Walker Wildcats. This put the Central Wildcats in a tough situation: they would most likely have to win the remainder of their games to make the playoffs. So far, they have done just that. Saturday, the Wildcats traveled to Denham Springs to take on the #12 Yellow Jackets. The Wildcats exploded with 19 hits including 3 each for Mason Gautreaux, Brett Courville, Thomas Eddlemon, and Travis Stevens. Chris Chambliss and Antonio Ragusa each added 4 RBI’s to the totals in a 16-6 victory. On Tuesday, Central took care of business at Scotlandville to set up a key game Thursday at home against Live Oak. James Schopp and Logan Brewer each had two RBI’s in a 7-2 victory. Brett Courville got the start and the victory going four innings, giving up three hits and no runs.
The Wildcats play their last regular season game at home against the Live Oak Eagles today at 4 pm. Central currently sits at #34 in the unofficial power rankings while the Eagles sit at #31. With a win and a little help, the Wildcats could make and be a very dangerous team in the playoffs.
