Central High School Wildcat Football started out the season with a convincing win over Zachary, 28 to 12 tonight in Wildcat stadium. On its first possession Central capped an 86 yard drive with a 35 yard touchdown pass from Will Briscoe to Shedrick Davis. Mathew Thibodeaux’s kick added the extra point.Zachary took the kickoff and fumbled at their own 40 and Central recovered and scored on a 6 yard QB keeper by Briscoe, extra point by Thibodeaux.The teams exchanged punts for several series until Zachary ran the ball in for a score, but Josh Veals blocked the extra point making it 14-6.In its last possession of the first half Central drove the ball 66 yards, culminating in a one yard keeper by Briscoe for the score, extra point once again by Thibodeaux.Central 21, Zachary 6 at half-time.
In the second half Central opened up with an on-side kick which was recovered by Zachary, who then drove in for the score.Zachary attempted a two-point conversion but fumbled the ball away to Central, making the score 21-12 Central.On Central’s next drive they moved the ball 73 yards down the field to score on a 3 yard pass from Briscoe to Miles Juneau.Thibodeaux added the extra point, making him 4 for 4 on the night.Central then took care of business by holding Zachary scoreless the rest of the game.Final score, Central over Zachary 28-12.
Shedrick Davis and Dequincy Brown each averaged almost 20 yards per reception tonight. Davis had 10 catches for 194 yards and a score while Brown had 4 receptions for 79 yards. At QB Briscoe went 25 for 37 for 315 yards, two TD’s and one INT. Zach Pourciau recorded eight tackles and Josh Veals had six. The Central O-Line did not give up a single sack tonight. After having six games cancelled due to Hurricane Gustav, the Lady Wildcats opened the regular season with wins over East Ascension and Ascension Catholic.During the first game of the double header Carlee Wilson (5 kills) lead the way in a 25-12 and 25-14 win over the Lady Spartans.Sarah Zito (5 kills, 2 aces) and Danielle Croswell (6 kills 2 aces) along with setters Whitney East (9 assists) and Casey Brown (7 assists) lead the Wildcats from a comeback win against the Bulldogs of Ascension Catholic.The wildcats lost the first game 23-25, but rebounded to take the second and third sets 25-17 and 25-10.Central will be in conclude pool play Saturday at Dutchtown (9:30).Bracket play will start at 12:30.
On Tuesday August 26, the Lady Wildcats were a late addition to the LSD Jamboree and took full advantage of playing against other teams.The wildcats beat Livonia 18-14, Hosanna 18-10 and LSD 18-10 to win their pool.Leaders for the team were Danielle Croswell, Carlee Wilson and Brittnie Creery.
As a result of Gustav and the threat of Ike, the following changes have been made for this week’s football games. Check both the dates and the times! The CHS Varsity football game against Zachary has been moved to this THURSDAY, 9/11, at 7 PM at Wildcat Stadium. At 5 PM Wednesday, 9/10, the Central High 9th grade and JV teams will play AT Zachary in a double-header.
The Central High School Varsity Football team took the field tonight at the Jamboree in Zachary and faced West Feliciana. The Wildcats took care of business with touchdowns by Giglio and Briscoe, extra points being added by Matthew Thibodeaux. Tyler Westbrook suffered a knee injury in the contest and we wish him a quick recovery.

Central High School is selling Football Jamboree tickets for $6 at the school office. Tickets are available at all five Central schools and at AAS on Monterey. If you need further information please e-mail Frank Fresina at ffresina@ccss.org. Remeber, if you purchase your tickets here in Central, the money goes directly to Central schools. You can still purchase tickets at the Jamboree gate but Central does not benefit. Remember, the Jamboree is at Zachary High School this Friday and Central plays West Feliciana at 7 PM. While you are thinking Football, come out and cheer on the JV team at their Jamboree. The event will be held at West Feliciana this Thursday and the Jamboree starts at 6 PM.
The Wildcat Backers invite you to become a member and help suppport all CHS athletic programs. The Wildcat Backers, founded in 1972, exist for the sole purpose of supporting “the athletic endeavors of Central High School Students, including Football, Golf, Baseball, Swimming, Track, Basketball, Tennis, Softball, Wrestling, Volleyball, Soccer, Bowling, Power Lifting, Gymnastics and Cheerleading.”
Meetings are generally held on the first Monday of each month in the Central High cafeteria, howeverm, the September 1st meeting has been moved up to August 25th due to Labor Day. Regular membership is $50, which all goes to support the athletic programs and Century Club membership is $125. Century Club members also receive two free season passes to all home sporting events except playoffs. If you are a regularly attending fan the free passes more than pay for the membership.
Membership in the backers also connects you with a devoted core of CHS backers who regularly meet in service activities to support CHS sports. The Wildcat Backers also sponsor the Fall and Spring Sports Banquets, Meet the Wildcats and Senior Recognition events.
