CHS Defeats Zachary 28-12 in Season Opener


Central High School Wildcat Football started out the season with a convincing win over Zachary, 28 to 12 tonight in Wildcat stadium. On its first possession Central capped an 86 yard drive with a 35 yard touchdown pass from Will Briscoe to Shedrick Davis. Mathew Thibodeaux’s kick added the extra point. Zachary took the kickoff and fumbled at their own 40 and Central recovered and scored on a 6 yard QB keeper by Briscoe, extra point by Thibodeaux. The teams exchanged punts for several series until Zachary ran the ball in for a score, but Josh Veals blocked the extra point making it 14-6. In its last possession of the first half Central drove the ball 66 yards, culminating in a one yard keeper by Briscoe for the score, extra point once again by Thibodeaux. Central 21, Zachary 6 at half-time.

In the second half Central opened up with an on-side kick which was recovered by Zachary, who then drove in for the score. Zachary attempted a two-point conversion but fumbled the ball away to Central, making the score 21-12 Central. On Central’s next drive they moved the ball 73 yards down the field to score on a 3 yard pass from Briscoe to Miles Juneau. Thibodeaux added the extra point, making him 4 for 4 on the night. Central then took care of business by holding Zachary scoreless the rest of the game. Final score, Central over Zachary 28-12.

Shedrick Davis and Dequincy Brown each averaged almost 20 yards per reception tonight. Davis had 10 catches for 194 yards and a score while Brown had 4 receptions for 79 yards. At QB Briscoe went 25 for 37 for 315 yards, two TD’s and one INT. Zach Pourciau recorded eight tackles and Josh Veals had six. The Central O-Line did not give up a single sack tonight. The Wildcats piled up 394 yards of total offense while hoding Zachary to 182 total yards. Click this link: GAME STATS for the complete official game statistics. CHS Football Scrimmage


CHS Varsity Football will scrimmage Port Allen High Thursday, August 21 at 6:00 pm at Wildcat Stadium. Come out to get a preview of how the Wildcats will do this season. Coach Wes Watts said that they have knocked on the door of a district championship for the last four years and this year, they will bust through that door. Go Wildcats!!!

Important dates for the Wildcat Backers


The Backers want to invite everyone to the annual workday at the stadium. Coach Sid has requested that work also be done at the practice field. They need everyone to come out on Saturday, August 16th at 8:00am. Please bring any tools and/or cleaning supplies you have. If you don’t have either, just bring yourself. There will be plenty of work to do!

Also, a great big invite goes out to anyone who is interested in being a Backer. Come and see what the Backers are all about at a social hosted on Monday, August 18th right after “Meet the Wildcats”. If you can bring an appetizer, such as a dessert or chips and dip, please do. Also needed is a two liter bottle of your choice of soda. The social will be held in the cafeteria. Hope to see everyone there.

The goal for Backer membership this year is 200. Remember that your $125 membership will get you and your spouse into all home games of any sport. This means you will more than get your monies worth! This price excludes any and all state play-off games. Below is the Backers application form.

Central High Football Program Ads


The Cental High Football Team are selling ads for the 2008-2009 program that will be available at EVERY home game this football season.

These ads are open to area businesses as a professional yet inexpensive way to promote your services or product.

Ads are also open to all Seniors, as well as Underclassmen from football, band, silks, ROTC, kittens and cheerleading.
