Hurricane Gustav-Volunteer Sign Up – St. Alphonsus Catholic Church received a request today to shelter 146 nursing home residents and their staff of 54 members. If a mandate for nursing home evacuationdue to Hurricane Gustav takes place St. Alphonsus will provide this shelter for Fernwood Manor Living Center. If this should happen we will need lots of help. Sign-up for volunteers will take place after Masses this week-end in the Gather Space. A notice board listing the needs for each day that the residents are here will be posted in from of the Family Center. We welcome and encourage all those who can assist to join us. JoAnn Stein, MPS

On Saturday, July 26 from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m., the Football Mothers’ Club will be having a garage sale at Central High School. The proceeds will help with some of the needs of the football team throughout this year. They are welcoming all donations. The organizers for Relay For Life of Central needs help from volunteers, sponsors, or teams for the upcoming Relay For Life of Central on October 3 at the Central High School Track starting at 6pm. Clean-Up Day was a huge success! On June 21, citizens of Central came out and supported their city and collected large amounts of trash. Fox’s Pizza Den, Wal-mart, Dennis Stewart Waste Services and Central City News helped sponsor this event.

Central High School is working on a Wall of Fame to be displayed in the weight room. We need any past CHS Athletes who went on to play college, Jr. College, University sports to contact Theresa Boudreaux at 225.921.7321 or email at tessboudreaux@cox.net so they can be placed on the CHS Wall of Fame. Please contact her by July 30. There is a formal unveiling that is also being planned. We also need 2 – 3 volunteers to help with this project. Central Intermediate School is now located at the former Starkey Academy building on Joor Road. We need your help. Beginning the week of June 23 we want to begin to make our physical school campus be the best for our students. Painting will take place in several classrooms. (Almost all) We also have a list of other projects needing attention and work. Please come by during the day between the hours of 8 and 4:30 Monday through Thursday. We are also planning a Saturday work day on June 28 beginning at 7:30 am. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Everyone needs to have the opportunity to have some FUN. Thanks for all you do.
