Central School Board Settles Lawsuit

Terms of Wrongful Termination Settlement Sealed

In March of 2013, Central School System teacher Mike Gardner was relieved of his paid position as an assistant football coach. A wrongful termination suit filed against the school system alleged that Gardner was fired because he was a part-owner of a local Central bar.
The Central School Board held a number of executive sessions over the several years of the lawsuit.   Executive sessions occur in private meetings of the School Board and are not open to the public. The last executive session was held on September 26, 2016.  According to the minutes of the meeting, “A motion was made by Dr. Walker and seconded by Dr. Gardner to approve the proposed settlement agreement regarding Michael Gardner vs. Central Community School System Litigation. There being no objections, the motion passed.”
Central Speaks, contacted Superintendent Faulk concerning the settlement and his email response was “Unable to comment per terms of settlement.”
